Co-hosted by the Brazilian National Antidrug Secretariat SENAD/GSI/PR, the Ministry of Justice’s National Public Security Secretariat SENASP/MJ, and the Directorate of the Federal Police, ICOS hosted The First International Symposium on Public Security and Drug Policy, which took place on the 25th, 26th and 27th of February, at the Sofitel Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This event brought together international authorities, experts and policy makers to discuss the most pressing challenges facing public security and law enforcement. In particular the ways in which the problem of drugs impact on public security, and the relationship between drug policy and public security policies will be explored.

SESSION II: NARCOTRAFFIC AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
In this session the subject of international narco-trafficking and connected crimes were discussed. The speakers present the implications that criminal organizations, especially narco-traffickers bring for national, regional and global security. The new groups, networks and criminal connections in operation around the world and actions needed to confront them were presented.
